How to see file version number like *.ax in Windows Explorer on Windows 7?

Problem

In Windows 7, it seems it's only possible to view a file's version number in the Properties dialog if it is a / file; if the file name extension is , it won't show the file's version number. Are there any settings I can change to enable this for files?
