Chrome: Selecting a link by doing search on its text
I'm trying to use my computer using the keyboard exclusively, without touching the mouse. When browsing the web it can get hard. I use Tab to select links, but there are often dozens of links on a webpage. I can use Chrome's text search (Ctrl-F) to home in on a piece of text in no time; But I can't figure out how to use it to click on a link. For example, let's say there's a link on a webpage with the text "Swedish Furniture". I can easily find it by typing , and then Chrome marks the link as found, but is there any way to follow the link after it's found without tabbing through all the links on the page?
How do I copy command output in vim?
For example, if I type ' ' to get the current working directory, I can select the text in gvim but I can't figure out how to copy it to the clipboard. If I try the same in console vim, I can't even select it with the mouse. I would like this to work with all vim commands, such as to copy the output.
Avoiding [process completed] prompt after terminal script ends on Mac OS X
In my text editor, I have bound a shortcut key to deploy my code by invoking a command like That deploy script uploads my code to my server etc. I am using "open" so that I can see the output in a new terminal window in case there are any errors. Very convenient, but in the end it leaves the terminal window open with text "[Process completed]". Any way to skip this and instead just automatically close the window?

How do I set advanced file associations in Windows 7?
It used to be in Windows XP that I could make Warcraft III files load automatically into the game by double clicking on them. This association was made by going to file associations ADVANCED area and using this line: Note that it takes an argument and an option. However, in Windows 7, the "Default Programs" > "Set Associations" area doesn't seem to have this advanced area. Can I still get these files to open automatically?
How secure are password-protected zip files?
In modern zip utilities like 7zip, you can specify a password when creating a .ZIP file. But, how secure is this? What encryption algorithm(s) are used to secure password-protected zip files?

/usr/local or /opt?
How do you generally proceed for your package installations on Linux, for packages that are not part of your distrib's repos? On my side I am used to install in /opt. But since, I saw this doc on the Internet: http://www.pathname.com/fhs/. Now I am confused: apparently /usr/local would be also a possibility. What is the difference between both? Any best practices to share? Thanks SirFabel

recursive grep: exclude specific directories
I use recursive grep a lot to find source files with specific content. On large codebases, this can get slow, so I use --incldue to restrict/whitelist extensions. However, it would be more efficient to exclude (prune) whole subdirectories, I'm thinking: But the --exclude only supports file patterns like *.java above. How can I exclude directories?
Firefox - always show the tabs in fullscreen mode
Full screen can be more fun if I can always see my tabs (by default you can see when you hover your mouse around that area) and my taskbar. I know how to make taskbar always appear. Any idea how to do this for the "tab-bar"?

Generating usage logs that prove my Internet connection is flaky
I need a way to generate reports or logs that prove that my Internet connection is flaky. My Comcast connection is very flaky but if I ask their support to send someone over it will probably work fine while the guy is here. I found and tried "Connection Monitor" from CSGWare Corp but it does not create the kind of reports or graphs I'd need to be able to convince my ISP that their link is intermittent. What I need to be able to do is have the software monitor my connection and produce a record of when the connection dies or when, for example, ping time climbs dramatically. Can I get Connection Monitor to do this or is there another program that does?

Make Mac OS X mouse acceleration more Windows-like
The mouse acceleration on Mac OS X is driving me nuts. It may work for touchpads but nothing beats the Windows' acceleration curves. Is there a way to modify the behaviour on OS X? I tried getting a Microsoft mouse driver for OS X but it didn't work since my mouse is not from Microsoft.
