Finding the definition of a bash function

I work in an environment that has a lot of legacy shell script magic lying around. One thing used heavy from the command line are bash functions that get sourced from some file included from some file included from some file ... included in my .bash_profile. Is there a way to get the definition or even better the location of the definition of these functions without tracking them down through 5 levels of includes?

How are PIDs generated?

On *nix, PIDs are unique identifiers for running processes. How are PIDs generated? Is it just an integer which gets incremented? Or is it a more complex structure such as a list? How do they get recycled? By recycling, I mean that, when a process terminates, its PID will eventually be reused by another process.

Screen recording without third-party software on Windows 7?

Is there a way to do screen recording on Windows 7 without installing third-party software? (Doing it with Microsoft software would be okay.) Specifically, I'd like to be able to run a program and generate a video file (for example, .avi) of the session. These would be short 30 second or so clips.

Bash is used by default in every Linux distribution I have tried, over alternatives like Z shell (zsh). Is there a technical or historical reason for this?

Is it possible to execute a file after extraction from a 7-Zip self-extracting archive (SFX) archive?

I'm try to make a compressed deploy-able application. Currently I'm taking a set of files that I've published from my IDE (Visual Studio 2008 - WPF published application) and compressing them in a 7-Zip SFX archive. My users have asked if they can "one click install" from the 7-Zip exe. There is a parameter list when I'm creating the archive. Is there a way to set some sort of combination of parameters to invoke the installer executable that is extracted? Unfortunately the 7-Zip documentation doesn't seem to cover this scenario. I've seen several paid applications that do something similar to this, but I'm trying to keep the tool that I'm writing free of licensed code so that we can use it internally.

Why does my computer go "New USB device" every time I plug one into a different port?

Let's say I have a mouse. I plug this mouse into slot 1 out of 4 on a computer. It goes through the new device detected and all of that, which is fine. But if I come back later with the same mouse and plug it into say slot 3, it does the detecting all over again! Why is this?

How to decode AAC (.m4a) audio files into WAV?

How would you convert (decode) AAC files into WAV format? (Or, if you prefer, how to decode & re-encode them into MP3 or Ogg Vorbis? But WAV is sufficient as I already have good tools for WAV ➔ MP3/Ogg conversion.) I'm mostly interested in Mac or Linux solutions, but feel free to mention Windows ones too. (Use case: I have some voice memos ("Apple lossless audio file"), recorded with iPhone, that I'd like to share in a format that's more common than AAC.)

When does Excel decide to overflow text into adjacent cells, or cut them at the boundary?

In Excel 2010, or any other version probably, if I enter in a cell a long single-line text that is longer than the width of the cell, Excel sometimes render the text across the next adjacent cells; some other times, it gets cut off at the boundary with the adjacent cell to the right. I would like to know how does Excel decide what to do, so I can better control my layouts. Note that I do not want to use merge cells, as it is inappropriate at times. Also, I already tried "Clear All" formatting on all affected cells but it still doesn't seem to reveal much. Any ideas?
