I've got 3 videos, all 3 have the same time, same amount of frames, and they only differ in terms of encoding quality. Now I need them to run side-by-side in synchronized fashion for evaluation purposes. Meaning when I press "play" BOTH! videos should start. Analogically for stop, forward, backward. Free way to clone HDD to SSD?
Is there a free way to clone a full Windows 7 installation from HDD to SSD? (The free part is important, I know I can pay for Acronis True Image.) SSDs are usually much smaller than HDDs which complicates matters. For instance, I have about 50GB data, my new SSD is 80GB but I still can't use Windows clone/restore system if my HDD is something like 300GB. Therefore, I'm looking for a third party tool that will be able to: Create a clone of my C: partition Store it onto an external USB drive Boot from some rescue / restore CD Load the image onto the new SSD Acronis True Image seems like a tool that should support this but it's a paid-for software and the trial version cannot create clones. Acronis Migrate Easy is a fully functional tria for 15 days but need both the HDD and SSD connected at the same time which is a bit of a problem for me as a laptop user. P.S. The Magic Mouse seems to be a vast improvement over the old Mighty Mouse after using it for a few hours. However, I just discovered that there seems to be no way to execute a "middle" click. How do I get permissions to delete files on Windows 7?
I updated my laptop's OS from Windows XP to Windows 7. There are some leftover files from Windows XP on the computer now. If I try deleting them I get the following error: You need permission to perform this action. You require permission from S-1-.... to make changes to this folder. What's weird is that I am logged in with the only user account on this machine and I have administrator privileges. I tried turning UAC off, but I still can't delete the files. How can I force removal of these files?

Mac OS: "Minimize" vs "Hide" - what's the difference?
Why does OS X have both a "Hide" and a "Minimize" feature? This seems somewhat redundant to me, and also introduces some inconsistency when I am trying to find an arbitrary window. If it's hidden, I need to activate the application and use the "Windows" menu to bring it up; if the window is minimized, it appears in the dock. What are some scenarios in which you'd use these two features differently?
Are there netcat-like tools for Windows which are not quarantined as malware?
I used to use netcat for Windows to help track down network connectivity issues. However these days my anti-virus software (Symantec - but I understand others display similar behaviour) quarantines as malware. Are there any alternative applications which provide at least the following functionality: can connect to an open TCP socket and send data to it which is typed on the console can open and listen on a TCP socket and print received data to the console ? I don't need the 'advanced' features (which are possibly the reason for the quarantining) such as port scanning or remote execution.

how to find the gateway used for routing
This is in unix environment. I have multiple routes in a host (visible with 'ip route show' command). If I am pinging an address, how can I find out which gateway was used to route the tracffic? I tried using traceroute command, but it does not show the immediate gateway. From below output, 10.58.227.1 is my default gateway. When I do traceroute to an external address, the gateway used (default gateway 10.58.227.1) is not shown in output. Is there any option to view the same information as given by traceroute command, including the gateway used for routing?

On my Windows XP I simply press Start -> U to see the Windows shutdown menu, so I can choose whether to shut down or restart or standby or whatever. Is there a similarly elegant way to do that on Windows 7, without touching the mouse?

Run Remote ssh command with Full Login Shell
I would like to do something like However per ssh manpage: If command is specified, it is executed on the remote host instead of a login shell. So what happens is that displays its output and then ssh exits. What I can't figure out is how to have the full login shell open and then have the command run inside that shell. Leaving the shell open after the command is run. As if I had manually done the following: Any ideas?

I have a wifi connection that requires to authenticate using a web form once the wireless link is established. I know how to automate the authentication with a script that uses /curlIE. But how can I ask Windows to call my script every time I connect to a particular network connection? I would be also interested in receiving the name of the wireless profile or the ESSID on the command-line of my script.
Computer volume drops when USB deviced plugged in
This is really an odd issue. When I close the laptop (I use it on a docking station; it doesn't leave the docking station when this issue occurs) or when I open iTunes, the volume output on the machine drops. Not the Windows volume bar itself. That stays the same. But the volume output by a program (like Winamp, but its happened with games too, so it's not app specific) drops. Not the volume control on those apps, but the output volume drops. A quick restart of the quiet app fixes the issue. But it happens every time I close the laptop or open iTunes. This is very odd, and I'm stumped. Any ideas?
